Description
WYSIWYG ORA Crocea Clam
Approx. 1.5″
Aquacultured • Captive-Raised
Captive-raised Tridacna clams are relatively easy to care for in home aquariums when their basic needs are met. All clams in this genus host symbiotic algae called zooxanthellae, which provide most of the energy and nutrients the clam needs to thrive. Because of this, proper lighting is critical for long-term success.
Placement & Lighting
-
Tridacna crocea and T. maxima prefer rock placement higher in the aquarium under higher PAR lighting.
-
T. squamosa and T. derasa are sand-dwelling species and do best on the sand bed under lower PAR.
Some hobbyists choose to supplement with commercial phytoplankton. While Tridacna clams are capable of filter feeding, they do not rely on supplemental feeding and instead depend primarily on light to sustain their symbiotic algae.
